Where can I use my activa card?

At any health and wellbeing store or service provider that is part of the activa network. Keep an eye out for the activa logo at outlets. If you're unsure, ask the retailer or service provider or you can check our lists of merchants to see who's in the activa network.

How do I use my activa card to make a purchase?

The activa card is used just like an EFTPOS card. If you're familiar with EFTPOS, you already know how to use your activa card.
 
After the merchant has registered the transaction:
1. Swipe your card through the EFTPOS terminal.
2. Check that the correct amount to pay is displayed on the terminal.
3. Press the CREDIT (or CRD) button on the terminal then enter your PIN number then press Enter( or OK).


The transaction processes and, provided you have the necessary funds, the money in your activa Account is used to pay the merchant.

Can I have more than one card for my activa Account?

Yes, you can have up to eight extra cards on your account. You can have one additional cardholder, who must be 18 or over, and up to seven supplementary cardholders, who must be 16 or over.

Is there an age restriction on activa cards?

Yes. The account holder and additional cardholder must be 18 or over. Supplementary cardholders must be 16 or over.

Can I use my activa card straight away?

Your card is activated and ready to use as soon as you sign the panel on the back and there are funds available in your activa Account, either as balance in credit or an overdraft (subject to lending criteria).  Remember, by using your card, you acknowledge acceptance of the activa Account Terms and Conditions of Use.

Is there a daily transaction limit for my activa card?

Yes, the daily limit is currently $10,000. You can make multiple transactions up to this amount each day.

How many activa cards can I have?

You can have a total of nine cards per account.  One of these will be the account holder, and you can have one additional cardholder, who has the authority to look at account details online and to make some changes. However (as an example) additional cardholders can't add cardholders or change overdraft levels.  Other cards can be issued to supplementary cardholders, who can only access the account funds via their card.

Can I get a card for my children?

Yes, children can have a supplementary card for your account if they are over 16 years of age.

How do I set up a PIN?

The activa customer care team will contact you and guide you through setting up a PIN. Please treat your PIN as confidential as you would any bank account PIN. The security of your PIN is important to us  – even activa staff can't access the PIN you select.  Also, no activa staff members or representatives will ever ask you to disclose your PIN.

What if I forget my PIN, or need to change it?

What do I do if my activa card is lost, stolen or damaged?

Contact the activa customer care team immediately on 0800 228 482, or 64 9 368 0600 if you're overseas.  We'll disable your card, however if you aren't the account holder we require them to contact us to arrange a replacement.

Can I use my activa card to withdraw money from an ATM or at a merchant?

No you cannot withdraw money from an ATM or at an activa merchant. Your card can only be used to purchase products and services from activa approved merchants.

Can I pay for an operation with my activa card?

Yes you can as long as you have enough funds in your account to cover the operation costs and the activa card is accepted by the provider.

Can I pay for my Southern Cross Travel Insurance with my card?

Yes you can.

Can I use my activa card for items that are not related to health?

In some cases, yes.  The activa card can only be used at activa merchants but if an activa merchant sells non health-related items, then they'll happily accept your activa card for payment.

Can I sign for my purchases instead of using a PIN?

For security reasons the activa card can only be used for transactions at EFTPOS terminals using your PIN, or for internet transactions if an activa merchant has facility to accept internet transactions.

What are additional cardholders and supplementary cardholders?

An additional cardholder has the authority to look at account details and make some changes. But, as an example, an additional cardholder can't add cardholders or change overdraft levels.  You can have one additional cardholder per account.  Supplementary cardholders can only access the account funds via their card.

How much does an activa card cost?

Your monthly fee of $7.50 covers the first two cards per account. Each extra card you have over that will cost $2 per month.

How much does a replacement card cost?

One card per account will be replaced free of charge in any 12 month period.  After that, a fee of $10 will apply for every card replaced.  (Fees are subject to change).

Why doesn't my neighbourhood health shop accept the activa card?

They haven't yet taken the opportunity to become an activa merchant. You can let us know their name using our suggest a new Merchant facility, and we'll contact them to see if they would like to join the activa network.
